Beginner Course
Take the Plunge With Our Beginner Course
Class Structure: We use an interactive classroom, so there are no boring lectures here. Most classes will begin with a lesson based on what has been read from your Open Water online materials. After the Classroom Session, you’ll head downtown to the YMCA’s indoor pool to practice the techniques learned. After the 4 to 5 classroom and pool sessions have been completed, five open water dives will be scheduled for final training and review of skills. Each session lasts for 2 hours of classroom and 2 1/2 hours of pool.
Age Limits: Minimum age is 10 years old.
Equipment Needed: Prior to class start, you will need to purchase a mask, snorkel, boots and fins. You can be fitted for your equipment in our shop. The fitting process takes around 30 to 45 min. The fitting session is very important to ensure all of your equipment is fitted properly and ready for your adventure into the underwater world.
Students receive 10% discount off scuba gear purchased in our store. On your first day of class, you will also be fitted for a BCD and regulator, which will be used during confined water pool sessions. These are free of charge for use during pool sessions.
You will be given a link to your online learning materials, dive log book, and Recreational Dive Planner.
You will also need to complete 5 Open Water Checkout dives. These will be scheduled and paid for seperately ($150.00). We offer checkout dives from May-November at Pennyroyal Quarry in Hopkinsville Kentucky. You need a full set of gear for the checkout dives which includes the following: mask, snorkel, fins and boots, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, weightbelt (if needed).
Rental prices for open water students for the weekend:
BCD and Regulator: $35.00
Wetsuit: $15.00

Tanks and Weights are supplied by Aquatech free of charge for checkout dives.
